Full Artist's statement
The nature of my work is color, studied from surrounding landscape. The atmospheric, fluid and dynamic flow within the power of nature’s presence becomes reference for how I see, what I remember and how subjects appear within the process of painting.
Painting becomes a way in which I learn; it is continual; sometimes results in an immediate completion– but not always. Sometimes I return years later to finish a piece or to change and revise or to let the work remain unfinished a while longer. I do not start work with a preconceived idea but rather begin with color, abstract form and build a spatial idea from this beginning. Subjects within the work become defined as I continue.
I like painting media that is fluid, characteristically has life, frequently leads to discovery and suggests its inner life through chance and accident – allowing risk and change in direction, and vision. For this reason, I turn most often to aqueous media and wax as materials of creativity and intuition.
