Description

The work, “Masked” explores the way that we protect or shelter ourselves from reality. Our perception of how we want to be seen or what others think of us skews our reality. We want to put a beautiful face forward but yet, the underlying face has more depth and interest. There is a constant struggle on how much to reveal of yourself. The fundamental insecurities to say the right thing or to look the right way, is only that, insecurities.

The primary source is a blind drawing. Using my right hand to draw, without lifting the charcoal off the paper, while my left hand felt the contours of my face.  The study was a timed progression of six drawings, this is 6 of 6. The print was made using traditional wood-cut relief techniques.
