WPA x DCPL Community Drop-In Hours at MLK Library

Wednesday, June 4, 2025 | 5–7pm

MLK Library, 901 G Street Northwest Washington, DC 20001

People’s Archive, Floor 4, East

event

This June, we’re partnering with DC Public Library for their seasonal drop-in hours, as we are currently celebrating our 50th Anniversary and working toward a launch of a new digital archive later this year.

Join us at MLK Library (Floor 4) next Wednesday, June 4 from 5–7pm for DCPL’s spring Community Drop-In Hours to learn about, start, or add to, your Artist File. For Pride Month, they will have a spotlight on LGBTQ artists in their collection.

Contributing to the Artist Files is a way to preserve your history and help future researchers learn about our region’s art scene.

You can donate:

  • Exhibition postcards
  • Artist CVs
  • Brochures and catalogs
  • correspondence
  • other ephemera

You can make copies of your materials on site if you prefer not to leave the originals. You can also digitize your materials during the event. DCPL staff will be on hand to help guide you through the process of creating your file and preparing your materials for the archive. You can also peruse other artist and institutional files while you’re there, to see how others are archiving their work with the library.

This event marks the kickoff of a special collaboration between WPA and The People’s Archive Local Artist Files which is helping to connect artists with WPA’s digital archive initiative. We invite artists who have been part of WPA’s exhibits and programs, past and present, to join us.

All are welcome, but space is limited so RSVP here. Come check out the history in their archives and help us provide a more complete picture of the local art scene!

Note: This event takes place in the People’s Archive, at the MLK Library, Floor 4, East. Check in at the Information Desk and meet in the reference area.
